Below are some of the common reasons our customers all over Perth choose us to resurface their tiles instead of replacing them.

Reason # 1 to resurface instead of replacing tiles is – Cost. Its much cheaper than replacing tiles

Replacing existing tiles is expensive. In fact, tile costs is usually one of the most expensive lines items for a typical home renovation.

And lets not forget that replacing tiles is also a messy, noisy business. Replacing tiles means lots of labour with noisy machines. Replacing tiles requires many labour intensive steps, removal, patch / seal / screed the wall or floor, lay the tiles, wait for the tile adhesive to set, grout, and then seal.

Oh, don’t forget, when you purchase tiles you have to buy more than actually get installed. Some for spares incase of damage, and more for install wastage, usually about 10% more to allow for cutting into corners etc.

Phew, that’s going to take a lot a cash.

Resurfacing tiles on the other hand, uses far less materials and labour. Less material and less labour = lower cost to you.

Resurfacing tiles requires repairing and existing tiles and preparing the surface, applying the resurfacing coating, and…..viola, job done. Simple.

Reason # 2 to resurface instead of replacing tiles is – It’s faster and less intrusive than replacing tiles

As we saw above, replacing tiles takes many steps. Some of those steps require time for the tiles to set, i.e. overnight.

Usually tiles are delivered a day or more before the job starts, so they have to be stored on site.

Then the old tiles are removed. This make a lot of dust in the house, and requires the broken, and sharp piece of tiles to be placed in a large bin, on your front lawn or driveway.

The the area where the tiles are removed from needs to be repaired. If the tiles were removed from a floor, the floor will need to be levelled.

Then the adhesive is applied and the tiles are cut (where necessary) and attached. Depending on the size of the job, laying tiles may take a few days. Then the adhesive is left to dry, overnight.

Next day you can start the grouting.

Oh, and don’t forget to seal the grout so that dirt, spills, and oil won’t stain it.

Phew, that’s a lot of time and inconvenience.

Thankfully, resurfacing tiles is much simpler. A minimal amount of preparation and can be completed quickly.

Preparation work includes repairing chips and cracks, which are filled so as to be unseen through the surface finish. You would never know the tile beneath had been damaged.

The tiles are then thoroughly cleaned and degreased so that the top coating will for a lasting and durable bond.

Last step is to resurface the tiles with the coating. This also includes resurfacing the grout. Therefore not further sealing is required for a long last finish.

Reason # 3 why many people resurface tiles – Slip resistance surface in wet areas

It gets hot in Perth, and we love playing in the water. But water doesn’t belong on the floor.

Slips on wet tiles can happen to anyone at anytime, but is very common with the elderly and young children. We have all heard stories of people falling in the bathroom and hurting them selves. Unfortunately, some people never fully recover after their fall.

Reduce the chance of slipping on wet tiles by adding a grip surface to your wet area floor tiles.

Treating tiles with grip surfacing will be barely noticeable to the casual observer, but may save you one day from bruises and broken bones.

Reason # 4 to resurface tiles – Repair unsightly cracks and chips

A chip or crack in a tile can often stand out like a flashing beacon. Instantly noticeable. And, once seen you just can’t take your eyes off it.

Replacing a single tile might sound like the answer but it rarely is. Unless you have spare tiles from the installation, it is almost impossible to match tiles from different production batches. A new tile installed next to old tiles usually has a slight difference in colour, and sometimes size.

Replacing a single damaged tile can sometimes be more unsightly that leaving the damaged tile installed.

That’s when resurfacing comes in. We have already discussed it is much more cost effective, and faster than replacing existing tiles.

We simply repair the chipped and cracked tile so its surface is flush and smooth. Then we resurface all the tiles for a fresh new look.

Reason # 5 to resurface tiles – Easy to clean and eliminates mold from wet areas

Resurfaced tiles in the bathroom not only look great, but it has the added benefit of eliminating mold. Cleaning your shower and bathroom becomes so much easier when you don’t have to deal with mold.

Mold grows in grout, which is porous. When we resurface the tiles, we also seal over the grout in between the tiles. Sealing the grout means that no water can penetrate. Repelling the water means the mold cannot grow in the grout.

When you get your bathroom tiles resurfaced instead of replace, the effort to keep the tiles clean is drastically reduced.

Reason # 6 to resurface tiles – Freshen up your property with a fresh new style and colour

If you are looking to sell or rent a property, you don’t want to get the most money you can, will spending the least you possibly can. But an old house can sometimes have, let’s just say an “unappealing” colour scheme.

All real estate agents will tell you a clean and well presented bathroom sells (or rents) houses quickly.

We have many happy customers who have transformed their house in the blink of an eye by resurfacing their tiles. Ready to sell or rent in next to no time, and with a small budget.

If any of the above sounds like you, call us now to find out more or to arrange an obligation free quote.
